MURRAY — A Murray man was charged with five felonies Tuesday for allegedly trapping kittens using sticky paper and putting at least two felines in a garbage can.
Stephen Patrick Lacy, 63, was charged in 3rd District Court with five counts of torture of a companion animal, a third-degree felony.
On Aug. 23, a Murray resident could hear the sound of kittens crying. He walked to his neighbor's yard, 5499 S. Superior Road, and found two kittens stuck to sticky mouse trap paper in the garbage can, charging documents state.
Police were called and the responding officer found three more kittens stuck to a single sticky paper in the carport area who were "meowing loudly," the charges state. "One kitten appeared to have a broken leg and another appeared to have its mouth stuck closed."
Lacy said he set the traps to catch the kittens and admitted to putting two of them in the garbage, police said. He told officers he thought there was a feral cat problem in the area and he was trying to take care of it, according to the charges.
