VIRGIN RIVER GORGE, Mohave County, Ariz. — A small plane crashed Sunday night in the Virgin River Gorge near the Utah-Arizona border, killing two people.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials confirmed a Cessna-like four-seat plane crashed about 7:30 p.m. Two people were confirmed dead, according to the DPS spokesman.

The plane was reportedly flying south through the Gorge when witnesses saw it go down. The plane reportedly caught fire and burned for about 30 minutes after hitting the ground. It reportedly was on a ledge and in an area where crews were forced to hike to it.

The incident was the second plane crash in northern Arizona on Sunday. Four people were killed in a crash near Sedona.
