"AS YOU ARE," by Sarah Eden, Covenant Communications, $15.99, 193 pages (f)

With her signature wit and sparkle, Sarah Eden’s latest Regency Era romance continues the saga of the handsome but quirky Jonquil brothers.

Corbin Jonquil, by far the most understated of the set of six brothers, has always withered in social situations. His manners are shy, and his words are awkward. While he has successfully shaped a thriving business breeding and selling horses, at 26, he has still never managed to engage in a relationship with a woman.

When Clara Bentford, a reticent young widow with two young children, moves into the neighborhood, Corbin is smitten. Stretching out of his personal comfort zone, he works to catch her notice through his attentions to her son and daughter, but it isn’t enough. On the advice of his brothers, Corbin stumbles into a series of mishaps that leave him feeling broken and dejected.

As he continues his fumbling pursuit of Clara, he begins to learn about the horrors that haunt her troubled past. When a demon from her former life emerges to pursue her, Corbin is left to either fade into the background or step forward as her champion.

This book fits well into Utah author Eden’s growing collection of historical yet clean love stories. The path of the tale is tender and sweet, but Eden’s telltale snap winds its way into the dialogue and unexpected situations. With moments that bring laughter and moments that tug at the heartstrings, this novel offers warmth and vivacity.

The characters are charming and engaging. Clara and her children are equal parts pitiable and courageous, and Corbin commands attention as a loveable but unlikely hero. As in Eden’s other books involving the Jonquil brothers — “Friends and Foes” and “Drops of Gold” — the robust and tightknit family snakes humor and depth into an already compelling plot.

As with her other books, the language is clean and the physical aspects of the romance don't go beyond kissing.

Eden’s latest period romance is sure to charm readers and entertain romantics everywhere.
