MINERSVILLE, Beaver County — Fire crews reported 80 percent containment of the Black Mountain Fire on Friday evening and were optimistic they would reach full containment Saturday.

Lightning sparked the fire Tuesday about 3 miles southeast of Minersville. As of 7:30 p.m. Friday, 4,566 acres had been burned.

Barring complications from weather, the Bureau of Land Management anticipates complete containment within a day. However, they advised that southern Utah residents could possibly continue to see smoke from a fire near Las Vegas.

The Chalk Hollow, Maple Springs, Black Mountain and Camel Hollow roads remain closed. No fire-related injures or evacuations were reported Friday.

The team fighting the fire included about 282 personnel, along with 12 fire engines, 10 hand crews, five various tankers and two helicopters.
