SALT LAKE CITY — The city is giving residents the chance to make their permanent mark on the new Public Safety Building.

Mayor Ralph Becker, Police Chief Chris Burbank and Fire Chief Kurt Cook on Monday announced a contest to name the new walkway that will connect 300 East and Blair Street (357 East) on the north end of the new Public Safety Building.

In addition to having bragging rights over naming the new walkway, the winner will also get to eat lunch with the mayor, have a ride-along with the police department, be named fire chief for a day, and get a tour of the new building.

The new $125 million Public Safety Building, expected to be completed by May, will house Salt Lake City's police and fire departments, as well as an emergency operations center. It replaces the crumbling, 50-year-old building at 315 E. 200 South.

Contest entries will be accepted through the end of the month. Contest rules and entry information can be found at www.slcgov.com/psb.
