Thanks to all who signed the petition and voted "yes" for the City of Millcreek. This four-year effort has given all Millcreek residents information proving how truly viable our community would be as its own city, based on the latest Salt Lake County financial data. It has also given us all a chance to recognize that incorporation is the only way to preserve our community by preventing annexations.
Furthermore, it has helped many realize how high our comparative tax burden is in unincorporated county and how little input we have in the decisions made for Millcreek, with only 1 in 9 county council members specifically representing us along with the volunteer community councils, who only make recommendations to the county on our behalf.
The vote to become the City of Millcreek was defeated, receiving only 42 percent at the polls. But some good things have come of this already, and we're sure more still will come in the future.
One valuable gain has been the opportunity given to many volunteers to become acquainted with such a great number of good people throughout our entire community. Millcreek is truly an area for which we should all be proud.
