SARATOGA SPRINGS — Republican Mia Love raised her voice in song Monday at a Saratoga Springs event supporting the arts.

Her performance, featuring music from the Broadway musical "Wicked," was a part of the city's weekly Arts in the Park.

"The arts, like most of the programs in our city, are run completely by volunteers," Love said. "Whenever I have an opportunity to support them, I'll be there. That's what matters most to me."

Love's performance garnered cheers from the audience.

"I love to sing," Love said. "Music is one of those great escapes and it's nice to be able to take a moment to share what I love."

Love, the current mayor of Saratoga Springs, is running against Rep. Jim Matheson to represent the state's new 4th congressional district.

Love raised almost as much as Matheson in the April to June quarter, according to data released by the Federal Election Commission. A Deseret News/KSL public opinion poll showed Love trailing her Democratic opponent in late June.
