OREM — It's starting to almost become routinely easy these days for the Delta wrestling program. Once again, the Rabbits are ahead after the first day of the 3A wrestling tournament at Utah Valley University on Friday.

Delta, in pursuit of its fourth consecutive state title, accumulated a total score of 116.0 to push them past Payson's second-place effort (99.5).

"It's pretty amazing. Not many can say they've won four in a row," said Delta's Brock Lawrence. "We got to keep wrestling, focus on one match at a time and go out there and dominate."

Lawrence, a former resident of California, recently joined the Delta program last year in what was his first time ever throwing on a singlet. He would later describe how he has never seen such a successful program and attributed that to "mental toughness."

Entering the state tournament, the main area of concern was the lack of individual region champions Delta produced last week with only two medal winners: Dane Nielson (160) and Ryan Petersen (182).

That very well could be put to rest after eight players advanced to the semifinals for the Rabbits: Kohl Tolbert (106), Jose Garcia (113), Bracken Lovell (126), Blade Edwards (138), Tyler Nielson (152), Dane Nielson (160), Ryan Petersen (182) and Alex Martin (195).

Uintah (90.0), Wasatch (75.5), Bear River (75.0), Tooele (58.5), Cedar (57.0), Union (54.0), Hurricane (47.0) and Juab (47.0) rounded out the top 10 in a field of 25 programs.

Hurricane's Brian Scott continued to build upon his incredible senior season. The 220-pounder and class 3A MVP on the Tigers' championship football team, improved to 42-0 on the season. In the first round, Scott pinned Tooele's Daniel Aragon in 32 seconds, then followed suit with another pin in the second round. He'll face North Sanpete's Nyle Adamson.

Along with Scott, three others are still in contention to repeat as individual state champions: Cedar's Dusty Hone (103), Wasatch's Morgan Sweat (125) and Hurricane's Zach Prince (152).
