SALT LAKE CITY — Hospital officials said Salt Lake County Councilman Randy Horiuchi, who suffered a stroke on Friday, has improved and is now listed in good condition.
The upgrade from fair to good on Wednesday means he was transferred out of the intensive care unit but will remain at the University of Utah Hospital while he continues to recuperate.
"Mr. Horiuchi and his family have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and well wishes they have received. They continue to request privacy and no visitors during (his) recovery process," said Kathy Wilets, a hospital spokeswoman.
Horiuchi, a past state chairman of the Democratic Party, was elected in 1990 to the County Commission, where he served two terms. He was elected to the new County Council in 2002 and is currently in his second six-year term.
He is vice president of development with Mountain West Small Business Finance and has served on the boards of numerous civic and political organizations.
