CINCINNATI — The Bengals wanted to get rookie quarterback Andy Dalton a little confidence in his pro debut. Instead, Cincinnati came away with another reality check — the most lopsided preseason loss in franchise history.

Dalton and the Bengals' starting offense couldn't even score on the Lions' backups Friday night during a 34-3 loss in Detroit.

It was numbing all around.

Dalton didn't get to run a play until the Bengals were down 14-0. His first pass was severely underthrown and intercepted. His next pass was severely overthrown and incomplete. The starting offense played the entire first half and managed only a field goal.
