Descente North America, a designer of winter sports apparel, on Friday said it will move its American headquarters from Englewood, Colo., to Ogden in November.
Descente said it began to search for a new location in 2003 after management recognized the need for the company to be closer to ski venues. An internal search committee cited Utah's favorable economic conditions and excellent quality of life as well as Ogden's close proximity to various world class ski resorts as the basis for their decision, the company said.
Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey said the move will help Ogden position itself as the "Ski Hub of North America" because of the city's proximity to Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, Ogden Hinckley Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport. "There will be more announcements about members of the ski industry moving to Ogden to be a part of 'The Hub,' " he said.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Descente Limited, Descente North America operates sales and distribution centers in Ogden and Vancouver, British Columbia.
